How to organize your homeschool schedule

For the purpose of this post, we will discuss creating a homeschool schedule using Trello. You will be able to create a full year in just one hour. Trello allows you to create one main board and copy of other children, so if you are like me and have multiple children this is a huge time saver.

Homeschool organization with trello

For our homeschooling family, we use Easy Peasy- All in one homeschooling. It is easy to follow it can be all online or you can purchase the books and work offline if you prefer. I will say we started online but because I wasn’t always able to sit with each one of the kids during the homeschool time it didn’t work for us. I ended up buying all the books, which works for us so much better.

Remember when it comes to homeschool it is about what works best for your family. You may need to try several styles before you find the one best for your family so take your time and enjoy the search. Don’t feel the need to buy all new books if you aren’t in love and it isn’t working for your child.

The planning beforehand

I do recommend you use paper and pen to plan out what your homeschool day will look like. You may want to do certain subjects every day while others may only take place on specific days. This will help you know how your Trello board will look when you get started. I will also share my board with you to help you get started.

For our example, you will see I don’t do a Monday through Friday schedule because we may decide that on Tuesday I want to be outside all day. Instead, I will layout every subject for the year and assign things at the end of each day for the next day.

What is Trello?

Trello is an amazing website and app that allows you to organize yourself in a unique way. Check out the video below for a great explanation.

Create an account

The first thing you’ll want to do is create your account. It is super easy to do and best of all FREE!

Start a master board

I start by creating one board that I can use for all my children, I call my master board. Once I have the master I can copy it can rename for each of the kids. By having a master board you save lots of planning time.

While it is easy to start your own board you are welcome to use mine. I love to be able to help a fellow homeschooling family. Join my mailing list and I’ll give you a copy today!

Creating your weekly and daily task

I love creating “cards” I can add reminders, checklist, due dates and you can even have several accounts linked (you may need to upgrade for this). You can create cards in Trello by subject, day of the week or a combination of these.

Another create thing about having your school year organized in Trello is you are never behind. You don’t have to worry about last minute, late night planning. Even school teachers may find that Trello is the way to organize their school year.

yearly homeschool planning in just one hour

Ready to jump in?

I am so ready to have all my homeschool plans for the next school year done. With a new baby on the way I hope to have everything done ahead of time so I can get more cuddles than the stress of planning.

Allow yourself time and space in your schedule to change your mind about the lesson. “School” doesn’t have to be an entire day sitting in a chair. If you are new to homeschooling please be sure to check your local requirements as to what you may need to document and register your homeschooling students.
